For a first time, Nil is traveling to Gent to teach his well received workshop: The Acrobatics Lab

The Acrobatics Lab is a deep dive into the weird and wonderful upside down, inside out, twisted, almost impossible and inspiring world of acrobatics. Imagine a place where you can experiment with your body, gravity and other practitioners in mind-bending ways, where mistakes can transform in the most peculiar and beautiful creations, where your training can transform into a creative, refreshing and evolving practice.

This workshop doesn’t require any previous knowledge in acrobatics – all content will be broken down into various forms, some great for beginners, other for seasoned practitioners. In this event all skill levels can coexist and cocreate. Please be aware that we are going to be moving for 12+ hours – come only if you know you can handle this and are open to try something new.

The workshop is covering a wide range of contents and materials, some will be presented in isolation, others will be linked, merged and mixed. You can be assured that Nil is taking care of the participants individual learning processes and hence will offer various containers to propose and bring forth his ideas.

Safely and creatively practicing acrobatics requires that one takes care of the body, strengthens it and keeps it supple. During the workshop, Nil will introduce various modes of conditioning and show his favorite patterns to build resiliency, elasticity and control.

Falling is part of the game, so better learn how to do it gracefully and skillfully! Next to basic and advanced rolling maneuvers, you’ll also challenge these skills in playful partner games and expressive tasks. You’ll learn to absorb impact like a cat, bounce in and out of the floor like a rubber ball and redirect falls like flowing water.

Every researcher needs various tools to successfully conduct experiments – and so do we as acrobatic scientists!

Re-Directions: How can we harness momentum and steer it like a ship in the open sea?

Hybrid Forms: A Frankenstein approach to acrobatics – mixing arches and rolls, jumps and falls, inversions and twists.

Freezes and Time Warps: Learn to slow down time, freeze mid-move and find interesting moments of suspension.

Imagine you could move in a place where gravity doesn’t exist – imagine all the wonderful possibilities you’d have! While we won’t leave our planet in this workshop (bummer, I know), we’ll use partners to recreate this impossible scenario. Through various games and tasks we’ll explore what our bodies are capable of when being supported and who knows, maybe we’ll find inspiration and options for our solo practice as well.

Open Level:

To participate in the workshop you don’t need any special acrobatic skills, you don’t need to be particularly agile or overly strong. However, you should have an active movement practice – which style doesn’t matter. Please remember that we will be moving intensively for many hours. Also, for this event it is expected that one has the willingness to try something unfamiliar, to show openness to novel experiences.

All participants of past events do not have to worry about repetitive material: the workshop is being revisited and updated frequently.

Bundle Package:

For an additional 149€, you can purchase the Finding Flow Basics Bundle (2 Online Programs: Beginner and Intermediate) or  for an additional 249€ the Acro Arts&Crafts Bundle (2 Advanced Online Programs: The Acro Lab and The Acro Atelier). Please let us know upon signing up.

Post Workshop:

Following the intensive, all participants will receive a summary document with videos, texts and other resources that were covered during the weekend. It is understood that the resources will be treated with respect.

About Nil:

A mover since day one: early exposure to various disciplines formed Nil’s love for movement and honed his connection to physicality.

His teaching is informed by various interests and practices, including rehab & health training, acrobatics, skateboarding, dance, weight training, parkour, didactics, pedagogy. The way of working is and remains dynamic: new experiences are integrated into the work, curiosities are being followed.

The teaching goes beyond the physical: aspects such as learning experiences and processes, exploration of the self, trust in one’s own body or fear management are an integral part of the approach.
